For a few months now, Ashkenazi has packed up her Tel Aviv home and made the ecological house she built in Pardes Hanna with her partner into her permanent home. Built almost entirely with their own hands, the ecological house led her to learn, discover, and work with natural materials that became walls, roofs, and floors. Engaging with natural materials brought Ashkenazi back to traditional crafts—handicrafts. "The house built by hand brought me home in terms of artistic practice as well," she explains. "After many years of technology-driven work using computers, I returned to paint, paper, glue, sewing, and embroidery." Thus, childhood memories, personal collections, and letters are interwoven like a common thread. Pen drawings and prints take on new life, while old drawers in new works carry burdens of memory and emotion. The act of embroidery blurs the boundaries between old and new, domestic and public, craft and art, until a new "patchwork" is formed, one that is both "home" and "made" by Ashkenazi’s hands specifically for this exhibition.
