A collaborative work by Avital Bar-On Isakov and Aliza Ashkenazi. A site-specific installation created specifically for the outdoor exhibition "To and From Home," curated by Revital Silverman in Zichron Ya'akov. The work was developed through a fruitful collaboration with Liron Gorfinkel, director of the Zichron Ya'akov Archive, and adapted for display on a unique building designed to house the archive, which has remained abandoned since 2010. The impressive two-story structure, featuring two wings and an open central courtyard with a water fountain, was originally designed to be bathed in natural light and encircled by living foliage. A wooden bridge connects its two wings; however, due to strict archival preservation requirements—such as protection from humidity, pests, and direct sunlight—the building was ultimately deemed unsuitable for its intended purpose. Today, the archive operates out of the historic "Halvaa VeHisachon" Bank building on Hanadiv Street, preserving documents spanning from 1885 to 1990, while additional materials are stored in an external facility. The installation brings together, for the very first time, the archival contents and the structure that was built to host them. Following in-depth research, photographs and documents were selected to recount fascinating historical stories of Zichron Ya'akov, highlighting extraordinary women who left a profound mark on the moshava. These materials were woven into a unique visual grid—a warp and weft enveloping the entire building—accompanied by a deciphering key that invites viewers to uncover the moving stories hidden within.
